Meet Alex & Lily!
Alex and Lily are two beautiful dogs who are extremely lucky to have their 'forever home.' For those who don't know much about shelters and rescue organizations, a 'forever home' is a home who adopts animals in need of a home. Alex has actually had two 'forever homes,' due to unfortunate events.
His
first adoption was through a shelter to a man who later purchased
an adorable female Chihuahua named Lily for Alex to breed with ~ both dogs were acquired for
the gentleman's girlfriend. Eventually the couple broke up, the
man lost his job, and was going to move into a new place. Sadly,
his ex-girlfriend didn't take the dogs and he was unable to keep them.
He was bound and determined to find a loving home that would keep both dogs together. He came across Alex and Lily's current 'mom,' who worked full-time at a doggie daycare as a groomer. She agreed to take the adorable dogs until she could find a home that was worthy and would take both of them.
Like all dogs, Alex and Lily have a way with people and soon they had wormed their way into the hearts of the whole family. The dogs' new 'mom' was living with her parents at the time, so they also gained a 'grandma' and a 'grandpa.' Later, she met a wonderful man who fell in love with both dogs as well as her.
Today, Alex and Lily live with the mom who adopted them, the dad who
fell in love with the trio, and their dog brother, Teddy ~ another
rescue who had been dropped at a groomer where their mom worked.
The little Chihuahua couple will not have children because, upon checking medical records, their mom found that Lily had been through two successful pregnancies ~ each resulting in one beautiful puppy ~ but that both had been c-section deliveries. To save Lily from further surgeries, Alex was neutered.
Alex suffers from a heart murmur that was very severe when the two dogs first came to their forever home. Alex's mommy knew nothing about it until he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the Animal Hospital where he was given oxygen. Now the little dog takes medication daily and is more playful at 11 years old than we was at his adoption when he was 7.
Their organization of choice is Chihuahua Rescue and Transport.
Alex and Lily go to events at the North Texas region, but they
have contacts in just about every state.
Alex and Lily are our shelter page models because they have made it to their 'forever home' and want to see other dogs make it to theirs!
If you have a favorite shelter, please have them contact dedi@deesdogcare.com. Shelters may contact the site to have a page added to this section, free of charge, which will list their contact name and can feature a couple of dogs per week.
